B2ST/BEAST(play /ˈbst/; Korean: 비스트) is a six-member boy band from South Korea. They were formed in 2009 by cube entertainment

Their members are:

Yoon Doo-joon (윤두준)

Birthday: July 4, 1989

Position: Leader, sub rapper, vocalist

Doo-joon is the leader of Beast. He was a candidate for JYP Entertainment, being featured in the Mnet documentary Yeolhyeolnama (Korean: 열혈남아, “Hot Blooded Men”) with 2AM and 2PM but has been an eliminated member. Before his debut in Beast, he auditioned for High Kick Through the Roof and was offered a role in the sitcom, but turned it down for his music career. He became a member of reality-variety series Danbi, part of MBC‘s Sunday Sunday Night line-up.

Doo-joon was in AJ’s music video for “Nunmuleul Dakko” (Korean: “눈물을 닦고”, “Wiping the Tears“) before they debuted as part of Beast. He was also a guest rapper for Gavy NJ’s song “Sun Flower”.

Jang Hyun-seung (장현승)

Birthday: September 3, 1989

Position: Lead Vocalist

Hyun Seung first received media attention when he attempted to join Big Bang but failed to make the cut. He received a lot of concern from management when the group was being formed, as the first thing the members were instructed to do was have Hyun Seung gain weight.

Yong Jun-hyung (용준형)

Birthday: December 19, 1989

Position: Main Rapper

Jun Hyung was first a member of Xing. He is noted to have unusual hairstyles. He also featured in AJ’s music video “눈물을 닦고” (Wipe the Tears) with DooJoon. Along with fellow BEAST member Yo Seob, MC and comedian Lee Hyukjae, Moon Hee Jun (formerly of H·O·T) and Kim Sook, welcomed Japanese tourists for “Visit Seoul 2010”. Korean Stars and Japanese tourists explore Seoul in MBC’s Star Guide Doshiraku to raise awareness of Seoul’s famous areas as well as it’s delicious cuisine.

He is the featured rapper in Hyuna’s solo single “Change”. He will also be guest participating in “Post Beyonce” Amerie’s new song ‘Heard ’em All.’

Yang Yo-seob (양요섭)

Birthday: January 5, 1990

Position: Main Vocalist

He is the main vocalist of Beast. Noted to be the “cute” member of Beast, his various hairstyles have received much attention, being compared to a Fairy Pitta and a Shih Tzu among other things. A former M-Boat trainee, he was also known for his self-created videos & parodies.

Along with fellow BEAST member Jun Hyung, MC Lee Hyukjae, Moon Hee Jun (formerly of H.O.T.) and Kim Sook, Yo Seob welcomed Japanese tourists for “Visit Seoul 2010”. Korean Stars and Japanese tourists explored Seoul in MBC’s Star Guide Doshiraku to raise awareness of Seoul’s famous areas as well as its cuisine.

Lee Gi-kwang (이기광)

Birthday: March 30, 1990

Position: Lead Vocalist

Gi Kwang was initially a trainee under JYP. He later transferred to sister entertainment company, Cube Entertainment. He originally debuted as “AJ”, taking a shot as a solo artist, but later redebuted under his given name.

Son Dong-woon (손동운)

Birthday: June 6, 1991

Position: Vocalist, rapper

Dong Woon trained for 2 years with JYP Entertainment.

Beast has released one Korean full-length album, four Korean mini-albums, one Japanese full album and various singles. The group debuted in October 2009 with their first mini-album, Beast Is the B2ST. They released their first full-length album, Fiction and Fact, in 2011,receiving their first triple crown on M.net M! Countdown for their lead single “Fiction”. Beast made their debut in Japan with the release of their single “Shock (Japanese Version)” in the same year.

The group was originally noted for its members’ previous lack of success in the industry, as Doo-joon and Hyun-seung had been eliminated from debuting with popular boy groups 2PM and Big Bang, Jun-hyung had been a member of rotational group Xing, and Gi-kwang had debuted as a solo artist.Musically, Beast is best recognised for its singing ability, with reviews of their Fiction and Fact album describing them as “one of the most vocally talented idol pop bands in Korea.

The group won the Bonsang award at the Seoul Music Awards in 2010, and went on to win the Artist of the Year (Daesang) award at the Melon Music Awards in 2011.
